Where many plastics become brittle or 'dry rotten' with UV damage, this will not be your experience with our shrouds. The HMW material also has very elaborate UV inhibiting properties. We do more with less (but higher quality, more fitting) material. With this mentality in mind, that is why the material may not be as thick as the original. Put simply - it just has more ' give'. This material is also less susceptible to damage due to extreme temperature fluctuations for this same reason. So in regards to hail (or other) impact, our part absorbs the damage and rebounds rather than fracturing. Where the originals use a thicker more rigid ABS plastic, our premium aftermarket AC Shrouds use a more malleable/softer High Molecular Weight Polyurethane. Thickness is actually a very limited factor in regards to the product durability. I wanted to address your concerns on thickness. The old ones I had on there were pretty hammered after only ten years. Nor do I expect the cover to hold up to hail very well. It did not have the two hole in the back but it also did not have the cut out like the original unit so maybe they felt they were not needed. The hole were slots and I had to do a little pushing and pulling but did not have to drill any extra holes.
